Derek Jeter is back in New York for the Yankees ucoming homestand and today he spoke to the media for the 1st time since news that a new crack in his ankel would likely keep him out until the all-star break.
Jeter gave no doubts that he will return and when he does, be back to the best of his abilities as starting shortstop for the New York Yankees. The only problem is that Jeter never said when it is that he will return. "I'm not giving a timeline. Last timeline I set I didn't make."
He of course is talking about the opening day return date which he set and couldn't meet. Jeter said he's not sure about when or what cause the new crack, but if he had to guess he would say sometime around March 16 against the Phillies. Jeter said he felf discomfort around that time and it never went away.
"It's frustrating" he said. "It's been a difficult process, it's been a frustrating prcess." He said that he's spent so much time in the training room over the past few week going throught rehab and physical therapy that he was happy to be out for the 1st time in a while.
When asked about how he feels not being able to play he said, "I don't like to miss games, I like to play." As for the games that he doesn't play, he said he hasn't watched many games. Jeter said he doesn't have the MLB package at his house and he doesn't get any of the games on YES.
As captain and leader of the Yankees, he also said that doesn't like to be away from the team. He wants be to around with them. But as far as his ankel goes, he'll continue to recive treatment and he hasn't doubet one bit that he will return healthy and ready to go.
Jeter had a message to all the Yankees fans out there, saying, "I'll be back soon." That's certainly something you oul want to hear in such an diffiult andtime consuming situation.
