Looking to rebound from a sluggish start in his last outing against the Rays, CC Sabathia was able to battle for 8 strong innings, to be back by a resilient Yankees offense and earn his 4th victory of the year, Saturday at Yankee stadium.

Sabathia was far from having his best stuff on the mound as he surrendered a season high, 9 hits to a very tough Blue Jays lineup. Sabathia gave up 3 runs early after a 12 pitch 1st inning, allowed an RBI groundout by Rajai Davis in the 3rd inning. Then Toronto added anther run in the 4th when Jose Bautista took Sabathia deep for his 2nd homerun in as many days.

Ben Francisco is usually booked as the Yankees DH against lefty pitchers, but Girardi decided to play Travis Hafner today against Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ. Down 3-0 in the 4th, Hafner blasted a 3-run homerun into the Yankees bullpen. It was Hafner's 6th of the season and it tied he game at 3-3.

But Brett Lowrie took the lead right back for Toronto in the 6th inning when he connected for his 2nd homerun of the season off Sabathia.

The Yankees once again showed a late fight as they have so much this season. "They've been resilient," Girardi said. "There's no doubt about it. They've found ways to come back."

It all started when Vernon Wells singled home Robinson Cano after he doubled with 1-out in the 7th. A batter later, Hafner shot a triple off the wall in center fileld to drive in Wells, and give the Yankees a 5-4 lead.

"I don't really have a rhyme or reason for it," Girardi said for the re-emergence of Hafner and Wells. "I think that this is a great place to play. It's a great clubhouse to be in, it's a great atmosphere to come into every night, whether you're home or on the road, and there's an expectation here. I think a lot of guys feed off that."

That was just enough support for Sabathia to head back to the mound in the 8th and finish off his day strong after tossing 8th ininngs of allowing 4 runs (3 earned), on 9 hits, with 4 strikeouts, and not a single walk from Sabathia on 112 pitches.

Girardi wouldn't allow Mariano Rivera to pitch a 3rd straight day, so insted he sent out Joba to attempt his 1st save since 2010. Toronto was able to get a couple runners on, but Joba got Melky Cabrera to groundout to 3rd to end the game. Giving Sabathia his 4th April victory for the 1st time in his career.

"That's fun for me, seeing the energy of the crowd and my teammates, and knowing this is the last go at it," said Chamberlain, who recorded his first save since Sept. 21, 2010. "I love that. That's something that I play for, the energy. I can't help but smile, because that's why you play the game. I'm excited to get that opportunity."

Backed by Travis Hafner's 4 RBI game, the Yankees are now 14-9 in a season filled with injuries to so many of their key players. They will go for the sweep of the Blue Jays on Sunday, with two pitchers in need a of a win as R.A Dickey faces Phil Hughes at 1:07 ET.
