Looking to avoid the sweep, the Yankees turned to their ace, CC Sabathia, hoping he could fire a solid performance again the Tigers and their ace Justin Verlander.

The Yankees got all they could ask for out of Sabathia, as he tossed seven scoreless innings, giving up only four hits, on 114 pitches.

New York jumped on Verlander early, scoring three runs in the second inning, including a two-run homerun off the bat off Jayson Nix. Nix had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-4, with 2 RBI's.

Verlander didn't have his best stuff, yet still last 7 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs, on 7 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4.

The Yankees took advantage of the Tigers bullpen, scoring two runs a piece, off Phil Coke and Octavio Dotel.

On the other hand, the Yankees bullpen managed to finish what Sabathia started. With David Robertson and Mariano Rivera pitching back to back scoreless frames, to finish up the Tigers and preserve a 7-0, Yankees victory.

Rivera pitching in a non-save situation, allowed a couple of bloop hits and struck out two. In his final regular season game at Comerica Park.

Some notables in the game include Kevin Youkilis, who double off Verlander in the first and drove in two runs on a single off Dotel in the 9th. Francisco Cervelli and Travis Hafner both went 2-for-4. Cervelli also had a pair of RBI's. And after a 4 for 4 performance on Saturday, Miguel Cabrera was kept quiet, with an 0 for 4 day.

This road trip will now bring the Yankees to Cleveland, for a four game Set. Huroki Kuroda will start against the Indians, during their home opener, at 4:05 ET.
