With the 332nd pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, the Yankees selected Matthew Bornes, another college pitcher, a right-hander out of Eastern Illinois. The 6-7, 195 pound righty entered Eastern Illinois as a reliever his freshman year, but converted into a starter over the next two seasons, making 15 starts in 2014 with a 3.39 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 109 innings.
As we can see here, the Yankees are going with another college pitcher, which they seem to be doing a lot of in this draft, a plan they probably had figured out going in. My guess, they would go after more college players with the hopes that they would be a little more ready and could possibly get through the system quicker than most high school players.
