The Yankees have made their first cuts of the spring. Shortly before today's 3-3 tie against the Tampa Bay Rays went final, the Yankees announced that they have optioned RHP Jose Ramirez to Triple-A, and also assigned Francisco Rondon to the minor league camp across the street.
Both players have been hurt for most of the spring, so it's really no surprise that they were cut from the major league roster.
There was a feeling around camp that Ramirez could be a possible sleeper candidate to make the Yankees' Opening Day roster as a reliever, but an oblique injury killed those chances. Maybe we'll see him in September.
