Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was pulled after the 8th inning of Wednesday night's 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers are sliding safely into home plate and apparently injuring his left hand during the play.
Reporters in the clubhouse after the game says that Teixeira was getting stitches in his hand, and Joe Girardi said that he definitely will not play in Thursday night's series finale against the Tigers.
Teixeira scored the Yankees' fifth run of the night in the 8th inning. As he slid into the plate, his lefty pinky either slammed into the foot of Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday, or it was just plainly stepped on. Either way, the replays did not look very enjoyable.
Well this is just great. I would assume that Teixeira won't be playing the next few days, and the Yankees are already playing with a very shallow bench because they are playing with 13 pitches. We'll see whether or not they decide to DL him.
